The Great Storm is a retrospective.  In 1619 the first Slave ship landed at Jamestown, Virginia, marking the beginning of the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade which would continue for almost 200 years carrying with it millions of bound persons from Africa to The Carribean and, after proper "seasoning", onward to, among other places, The 13 Colonies.

The Institutionalization of Slavery, over time, created the circumstances for a major conflict between The State's rights to maintain Slavery and The Federal Government's ability to abolish it.

What ensued was The American Civil War.
